Yes f) Do you support requiring parental consent before an abortion is performed on a minor?
g) Do you support sexual education programs that include information on abstinence, contraceptives, and HIV/STD prevention methods?
Yes h) Do you support abstinence-only sexual education programs?
I truly do consider myself to be pro-life and the idea of abortion sickens me. However, I also believe in limited government and am a man, therefore, I do not feel that it is my place nor the governments to force a women who was raped, or whose life is endangered to have a child. However, I also feel that using abortion as a form of birth control is 100% wrong, and only feel that the practice of abortion is acceptable in cases of incest, rape or the mothers life is endangered.

On question "c" I believe our prisons are already overcrowded with non-violent criminals. That is why I support alternatives to incarceration for such non-violent offenders as individuals who are in possession of small amounts of marijuana. I also have no problem with small amounts of marijuana usage for medicinal purposes. If it eases the pain of someon who is going through a great deal of suffering, I do not feel it is the governments place to tell them they cannot use that form of treatment.

Our state government is going to be facing a huge debt crises is the upcoming legislative session. I will not vote for any legislation that will put us further in debt. I certainly would not vote to decrease funding for several of the questions above, but I will not support increasing funding.

I am fortunate to have several family members, and friends who are teachers. I know how hard the majority of our teachers work and how committed they are to educating our children. I also support parents rights to take their kids out of failing schools, which is why I support charter schools and believe we should lift the current cap that is in place on the number of charter schools we allow in our state.

f) Do you support legalizing physician-assisted suicide in North Carolina?
Yes g) Do you support allowing doctors to prescribe marijuana to their patients for medicinal purposes?
I support market based, common sense solutions to making health care more accessable and affordable. One example is allowing consumers to purchase their health insurance accross state lines. This allows for more competition and will lead to increased savings for the consumer. I am totally against the federal government mandating to us that we must buy health insurance. That is simply unconstitutional and I believe NC should follow other states lead in standing up against it.
Yes a) Should marriage only be between one man and one woman?
Yes b) Should North Carolina allow same-sex couples to form civil unions?
c) Do you support state funding for stem cell research?
No d) Do you support state funding for embryonic stem cell research?

My top priorities when elected will be to play an active role in the redistricting process that will be taking place in the upcoming legislative session, to support policies that will make NC an even better place to do business, to cut wasteful spending, and finally to improve our education system. I am willing, able, and ready to get to work for the people of NC House District 30. Together we can make North Carolina an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.
